She called me on my mobile phone and asked if I had time to teach. I replied by saying that I had time in the morning and at the weekend. Then, she offered me to teach translation starting in two months. Immediately I agreed, thinking that she would call me again for a meeting or something like that to discuss the teaching materials. I took it easy.
A month later, she called me again saying that I was scheduled to teach on Friday morning and Saturday morning, two classes. I was shocked because I was totally unprepared to teach in such a short time. Having okayed her before, I reluctantly agreed with all the schedules she made.
I started to find my books on translation. Some’re in my office and some at home. I have a small collection of books on translation.
I focused on preparing the teaching material only for the first meeting.With Larson’s book as the primary source, I finished compiling the material in a week.

Stayed at home since 17 August, Thursday, looking after my two sons.
Both're not well. Andrew vomitted many times. He also had diarrhoea. Later, Bastian had the same symptoms.They're better now. Hope they'll get well soon. I'm tired. Think my wife's even worse.

I have 30 students in my Saturday’s class at Room 407A. This class is busier compared with my Friday’s class.

I arrived at about 6.15 am at Atmajaya, coming in through Plaza Semanggi, no need to turn to narrow streets before reaching the campus. I parked at the parking building, going down through an elevator before arriving at the secretariat.
At 6.30 am, I went up to my class at the third floor, room 305 and had the OHP and AC switched on. Sitting at my desk, I waited for my students.
At 7.00 am, the students came one by one until totally 20 of them. Seven were absent. Immediately, I started the class.
Two hours and half is not a short period of time and I have to present translation theory which is not that interesting if presented too long. Like it or not, first meeting is focused on translation theory.

My first day teaching at English Department of FKIP Atmajaya. Thanks to Paulina Chandrasari, head of English department for making it happen. I really appreciate it. I always want to teach, be a lecturer. It’s like a new challenge for me.
I teach Translation with the subject code of KWI-405. The pre-requisite for this subject is Vocabulary II (KWI-106) and Structure III (KWI-201) meaning that students who want to take this subject are required to complete 5 subjects first. They are Vocabulary I, Vocabulary II, Structure I, Structure II and Structure III.
The duration of the class is 2.5 hours, once a week. I teach two classes, on Fridays and Saturdays, starting at 7 am to 9.30 am. Teaching that early requires me to get up early but never mind, I kind of enjoying it.

You will save your friend’s contacts in your mobile phone, right? It’ll be easier for you to call them or identify them when they call you. However, my mobile phone includes not only my friend’s contacts but also contacts of those whose calls I’ll have to reject i.e insurance agents and bank agents who are following up their product offer, those who are looking for my boss at the wrong time.
I usually store important contacts on my PDA, not on my mobile phone. Fyi, my mobile phone is an old Nokia 6110 whereas my PDA is a sophisticated Treo 600.

I attended an academic meeting yesterday at Atmajaya university. About 50 lecturers from four departments were present. The departments are English, Theology, Guidance & Counseling and Primary School Teacher’s Education. All departments are under School of Teacher Training and Education of Atmajaya University.
Lunch box was provided before the meeting. At 1 pm sharp, it started and it ended at about 4 pm. Starting with joint meeting and followed by department’s meeting.
One thing I’d like to mention here is that inside the folder containing academic regulation and other academic related information, there was also an envelope. I think the money inside is for transportation :)
The new semester will start next week. Am I ready? I think so. Need your prayers so I can teach well.
